Bryant® Motor Controls now suitable for use as motor disconnects
Bryant's
new line of high-quality motor controller/disconnects provides the control
you need with the features and flexibility you expect.
Bryant's combination motor controller/disconnect devices utilize one
switch to function as both a motor controller and a motor disconnect as
defined in the National Electrical Code (NEC) article 430.102. Since the
new device is "suitable as a disconnect" as described in the NEC, users
gain the economy, convenience and simplicity of using just one device
to satisfy two requirements.
Motor controllers are designed to simply switch motor loads on and off
thousands of times. Motor disconnects, however, are designed to safely
terminate power to a motor load for servicing, and are tested to withstand
high short-circuit current faults. Because the 2005 NEC requires each
controller to also have a disconnect installed in the circuit within "line
of sight," (article 430.102), two devices were previously needed to meet
the code. Since the NEC also recognizes that the controller and disconnect
can be the same unit (art 403.109), Bryant's new line of devices, rated
for 10,000 Amp short circuit current, now provide a safe, economical solution
in one device eliminating confusion and the need for an extra disconnecting
means.
Bryant's unique design provides:
- The ability to install one switch at the controller location eliminating
additional labor and material previously needed to meet NEC requirements.
- Flexibility for installation since the NEC "line of sight" requirements
can now be met at the equipment or on a nearby panel or wall.
- Economy in size. Smaller switches operating as both controllers and
disconnects.
- A variety of enclosures to meet specific application requirements.
- Code compliance with smaller devices performing multiple tasks.
- Productivity improvement by allowing maintenance and repair of motor
loads at isolated points in the circuit without the inconvenience and
high cost of shutting down an entire line.
